My name is Juan Saladín and I am from the Dominican Republic; I work with FUNCREEMOS and am responsible for the planning and implementation of the organization’s strategic plan. I have been working at Youthprise for the past few weeks because I was selected by Partners of the Americas and the  U.S. Department of State to serve as a Legislative Fellows.

From a young age I have always enjoyed helping others, especially those who have less than me, others with the desire to improve themselves and who want to find a purpose in life. This has led me to participate in volunteer activities like giving toys to needy children during the holidays. In 2013, I had the opportunity to learn about FUNCREEMOS. This happened in an event where they presented Partners of the Americas and there I decided to join in FUNCREEMOS to work in the department of planning and apply to the Legislative Fellowship program to acquire the experience and knowledge of the American culture. So far, I have accomplished both of those things.

Here is more information about FUNCREEMOS including the history, philosophy and goals.

History

FUNDACIÓN CRECIMIENTO ESPIRITUAL MOTIVADO AL SERVICIO, INC. (FUNCREEMOS) was created in the University Youth Ministry (PJU) Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra with the purpose of promoting the values of the Christian Faith in the university, to promote community service, and to support communities unconditionally. Additionally the organization provides comprehensive training to young people today, and the PJU has worked since 1986.

All of this are accompanied by the foundation values, these are:

  • Objectives

The overall objective of the organization is to promote comprehensive education by promoting Christian values, especially by serving youth in our society.

As Dalai Lama said, “Happiness is not something ready-made. It comes from your own actions.” This quote reminds us that our own decisions lead us to happiness, and that our daily actions matter.
